Fast Idle Speed Adjustment

Fast idle engine speed is used to overcome cold engine friction, stalls after cold starts and stalls because of car burettor icing. Prepare engine by bringing it to operating temperature. Set ignition timing, curb idle speed and mixture, as previously described, then proceed as follows:

\ -,

(1) Remove air cleaner and cap vacuum fittings to heated air control and OSAC.

(2) With engine off, transmission in NEUTRAL and parking brake set, open throttle and close choke.

(3) Close throttle to place fast idle speed screw on highest speed step.

(4) Move fast idle cam until screw drops to second highest speed step (Fig. 12).

(5) Start engine and determine stabilized speed. Turn fast idle speed screw to secure speed listed in specifica tions.

(6) Stopping engine between adjustments is not neces ary. However, reposition speed screw on cam after each speed adjustment to provide correct throttle closing torque.

Fuel Filter

Under normal operating conditions the fuel filter should be replaced at the scheduled intervals.

Loss of vehicle performance may occur if the filter traps an unsually large quantity of dirt due to a mal function in the fuel system or if contaminated fuel is used. If this occurs the cause must be rectified and the filter cleaned (gauze type) or replaced (paper type).

To clean, remove filter from fuel line and backfiush with fuel and blow clean with low air pressure in the direction opposite to normal fuel flow.

Carburettor Air Cleaner

The paper element air cleaner should be cleaned or replaced as often as conditions warrant but not exceeding the scheduled intervals.
